RetroRead down 12 hrs+: Serious problems at hosting provider

Well since about five o’clock Friday (7/17) www.retroread.com has been essentially offline. First the SQL server apparently crashed, then the whole site came down.

The front end is hosted by bluehost.com, and apparently they had to completely rebuild the host platform. This morning it was up for a while, but now (9am PST) down again … I’m able to redirect (after TTL latency on DNS records expires) to the back end site with a “come back later” message, but meanwhile … no good.

Discouraging as BlueHost is generally a great provider, and I’d just as soon not administer my own SQL instance and mail server. The back end conversion engine, hosted on Amazon’s AWS EC2 platform, is up and running … but not very useful.

Seems I need to look into a hot failover copy of the front end site …
